Agriculture uses and benefits:
- Manganese Sulfate is a fertilizer for dry application to the soil.
It is also used as an ingredient in blended fertilizers. - Manganese Sulfate is primarily intended for use in planting fertilizers in crops grown on calcareous soils.
Manganese deficiency most commonly occurs on alkaline (high pH) soils. - Manganese applied as fertilizer can be rapidly converted to plant-unavailable forms. For this reason, it is recommended that manganese be applied as foliar sprays where practicable, rather than to the soil.
- In horticultural crops, manganese can be applied with routine crop protection sprays. Where manganese-based fungicides such as maneb and mancozeb, e.g. Dithane M45, are being used, they often supply sufficient manganese to correct a deficiency.
Medical Uses:
- Manganese Sulfate can be used as a dietary supplement and as a nutrient.
- This product has also been used for the treatment of potable water for radium removal.
- Manganese is important in the breakdown of amino acids and the production of energy. It activates various enzymes for proper digestion and utilization of foods.
- Manganese also helps nourish the nerves and brain and is necessary for normal skeletal development.
